Craziness
By 0 viewsLooking through some of this stuff brought about good (and bad) memories, growing up. Pictures are now posted in the gallery. Check ‘em out, if you really dare to
Anyways, on to the craziness:
It all started yesterday afternoon. I walked out of the apartment to the store across the street, originally to get funds and transfer them using the ATM from one bank to the other. Silly me, I forgot (yeah, forgot) that I didn’t have my keys before I closed the door.
No worries, I figured that I’d call the landlord’s emergency number(s) and one of ‘em would answer and help me out. Well, both went to cell phones , and neither answered. Messages were left on both of them, however the pay phone I called from I figured didn’t take incoming calls (it didn’t), so I called Mike .
an hour or so later Mike shows up (he was having lunch with a friend), yet still no landlord. I call back and they said they’d been out there. I told ‘em I was @ HyVee like I’d been for the past hour, like I said I would be when I called the first time. 30 minutes after that, she shows up to let me into the place.
Mike and I originally went to WalMart last night to pick up a few things. On the list was printer ink. When we got there, I looked at the Lexmark ink, looked at the new printers , went back to the ink, and realized I could pick up a scanner for $20. The printer I had was old, about 3 years old actually and due for an upgrade. I figured spending 80 for a printer/scanner/ink beat spending 60 for ink, right?
Well, the nightmare started THERE!
We got the printer to my place, hooked it up, and it printed ONCE, all screwed up at that.
I tried updating to SP2, figuring that the drivers would help.. Halfway through the update, the PC restarted, and I KNEW I was in for a long night from there.
Long story short:
The SP2 update failed (duuh), and when I logged back in, I found everything was literally horked. I had no internet, all of my "hardware" was "new", and it was a bloody mess. I could spend hours fixing the problem or reinstall XP, so, I reinstalled XP. Thankfully I’m smart enough to have a backup drive with EVERYTHING on it, which means it takes me an hour (tops) once XP is reinstalled to get the data and info populated back into the PC.
So, I wake up at the butt crack of 11am (better than the past couple of days), move things around, and Mike and I head to WalMart again. This time I walk out with a better scanner/printer combo (I’ve had probs with LexMark in the past) andend up paying the $20 difference. No worries there.
On the way back to my place, we stop @ Wendys, as we’re both needing sustenance. Both of us have special orders, and we get ‘em back to my place for the testing of the printer.
Before I even got inside, I realized that my door was open. GREAT, so my cats are who the hell knows where. Thankfully Peanut was in the apt (he’s smart enough to leave), but Snoopy wasn’t anywhere to be found. At least, until I closed the door, and Mike opened it again. He was right outside the door, begging to come in like a good cat
So we got inside, looked @ the food and realized that they had completely and totally screwed up our sandwiches. Mike had to run back to Wendys and have them replace everything, which they did.
Thank GOD the printer / scanner works, otherwise that would have really topped the weekend off.
