Field of Dreams?
By 15 viewsSo, tonight was the night. Netflix Rolling Road Show came to Dyersville with the Field of Dreams. This was an incredible experience. Why?
A> I’ve never been to the field of dreams, even though I live an hour away.
B> Kevin Freaking Costner. Not the greatest actor ever to grace the planet, but not the worst.
C> It was free
D> It meant free music
E> It meant getting out of the house
Around 4′ish, we piled into Mike’s Dad’s car, headed towards the event. The thing started @ 7, but the idea was to get there early, so that we didn’t have to deal with getting turned away.
Since the event was being held in the FOD, with no parking remotely close, we parked @ the school, and took a shuttle out (6 miles). No charge for the shuttle, they had 3 running (probably needed more, but hey, it was free, damnit!).
We get there, and it was close to the way it was setup in the movie. The land is now owned by two individuals, one side owning the ball park/house, the other owning the other half of the lot. Unfortunately, the two families have been “feuding” (do we still have those, have these people not learned to get along, that this is the modern age) for years over stupid stuff, which sucked for one half of the feud, but not for the other, as only ONE half benefited from the concessions sold on THEIR half of the property (like I said, silly shit), because the OTHER half of the property was closed off (booooh!).
We explore things a bit, since it’s just after 6(or close to), and take a few pictures. Nothing huge there, I’ll have them up in the gallery when I get the chance.
Anyways, after we get settled, the time comes, and everyone starts cheering, obviously, for Kevin Costner. While he’s walking down the middle aisle (two people away from me), I reach out and shake his hand. I SHOOK Kevin Costner’s HAND man, that’s freaking incredible!!!!!! No autographs were signed (there were about 7k people there, so that was understandable), and he really didn’t stop, but I shook his hand. Not a bad way to start the night off right there, really! Of course, I should have gotten a better picture of him, but I was too busy shaking the man’s hand.
Kevin and his band got up, and started playing. They’re actually NOT that bad. I wouldn’t say they’re RCPM quality, but they’re not bad at all.
After the concert (free music, remember? ;)), Kevin says he will be back when this (pointing to the both sides of the field) is over (referring, of course, to the “feud”). We’ll see if that happens in our lifetime, but you’d think it’d be over PDQ.
Anyways, just a quick update for those that missed the event. More pictures will be uploaded as I get them from Andi/Mike’s camera over the weekend. Till then, I’m out!! Enjoy the pictures.
