Normal? What’s that?

Every day we’re faced with day to day choices, some of which are absolutely easy, some are not. However, depending upon how we respond to those choices apparently, society decides how "normal" we are.

For example:
I don’t go out much, personally I prefer my own company and, I work from home. Looking at this, society would say "Hey, you’re not normal, you’re not like us". Well, who gave them permission to say that? Who are THEY to judge me unless they’ve been in my shoes? Damn!

So, I don’t wear the clothes you wear, so, maybe I like the comfort of sweats and a t-shirt, or maybe jeans and a t-shirt, or occasionally dressing up (not that often mind you). So, I weigh a little more than the average individual my age (comes with the job folks). Who the bloody hell are you to judge me by the way I look? ehh?

Day after day, I see crap that’s pumped out as normal to us. From too-skinny women to kids with boob jobs now. Great, so now the norm is artifical enhancement? Sorry, not going THERE! Thankfully I’m not female, but still, I wouldn’t if I was anyways.

The sad part? Most of these kids will look back a few years from now and be like "wtf, what was I THINKING?". Problem is that most of them are making changes to their lives (and bodies) now that are permament. Come back in 40, maybe 50 years and tell me how you like the implants, or the tatoo that’s stretched from small to large, growing with your skin! Tell me how the earring that you put in your nipple doesn’t hurt, or how many times you’ve had to have your nose re-pierced.

Whatever happened to individuality? To being who you are, who you want to be? Whatever happened to being unique? Is that such a crime? Personally, I’d like to think I’m unique (ok, so I know I am), and quite honestly, I think I turned out allright! I mean, I’m no Bill friggin Gates, but I’m known for the work I do, for quality work. I do what I love to do as a job, I work for myself, nobody else, I have done so for the past 2 years, and I love it. I don’t see that as a bad thing at all. I have dreams, and I pursue them. I have goals and I pursue them. Stop trying to fit in and go after what you want.

Everyone is unique in one way or another, yet they all seem to want to strive for the same cookie-cutter figure, the same attitude everyone else has, the same tastes and whatnot. What’s next? Are we going to have a bunch of silicon robots out there as a society? This is just scary stuff. Wake up, smell what you’re doing to yourself and become who you CAN be, not what society tells you you HAVE to be!
