The Long Ride Home
By 0 viewsThe journey begins, yet again. Pack, move, pack, move, pack, move. hopefully this one will be the LAST move for a very long while, though as I’m starting to get pretty tired of moving and hopping around from place to place.
The goal is to be in Spokane (WA) in either early June or early July , the sooner the better. This will, of course, depend on factors such as a place to stay, moving expenses (cross country movers want around 1800 any more, and that’s the cheap movers), hooking shit like cable, phone and the like up, and scheduling stuff with clients (I’m not giving the business up;)). I think now that I’ll be able to be there in June, at least I’m hoping like hell to be.
Why the sudden change of plans? Well, for a lot of reasons, really. I love Iowa, it’s treated me nice, but it doesn’t feel like "home" any longer. My family is in Washington, including my dad’s parents and my mom’s mom.
Why Spokane (and not Seattle)?
Seattle is too damned expensive to live in. Moving to Seattle would mean I end up paying around $750 for a decent 1 bedroom apartment, and I’m sorry but I’m not going to get raped like that.
Spokane has all the amenities of Seattle, but the people there are just so not stuck up. You can buy shit AFFORDABLY in Spokane (1 bedroom for around 5-600 easily, and that’s a NICE 1 bedroom), you can survive on low income in Spokane, and while I do run my own business, I don’t keep most of the profits. Most of those go for those things we all have, called bills.
Spokane has actual SEASONS, like spring, summer, winter, fall. Seattle, well, it’s got one season: WET .
I’ve got relatives on both sides of the state, and I’m sure I’ll be visiting the Seattle/Sequim ones quite frequently (or I plan to), aside from my mom of course.
I spent a good deal of my teen (16-20s) life in Spokane or, just outside of it in Dishman-Mica with my aunt, and it’s one of the few places I’ve ever felt at "home". There’s just no beating walking around Spokane, especially riverfront park.
Spokane isn’t HUGE, it’s just Spokane, about 10x the size of Waterloo, and all travelable via bike. I know this, because I distinctly remember one day where I rode from dishman-mica to the northside (northtown mall I believe) and back. It took me a few hours to get each way, but it was definitely a well excercised thing.
Spokane is ideal for me, realistically. It’s got all the amenities of a larger city, without the hassle of being in one. What can I say, in less than 6 months I’ll be home.
I know, you’re thinking "yeah yeah, we don’t care" right? Well, you shouldn’t. In fact, please, don’t care. I’m going home, I’m going to enjoy my life where it’s most enjoyable for me, in Spokane! YAY ME!
Life seems to throw us some pretty damn coincidental circumstances sometimes. Who’d have thought that missing a flight would have caused me to just decide that I’m doing this, and to push it up a few months? Not I! then again, maybe my gut is right and something is calling me there for a reason. It’s allll too possible.
Anyways, regardless, I’m going to spend the next few months packing, cleaning (yeah right), packing, organizing, packing, swearing, busting my poor little ass off just trying to get this move complete. I just hope the financials are there for it to be completed as it should be. Would suck to get the stuff to spokane, but not me, ehh ? Time to discipline myself a bit and get away from the dvd/ps2 houses and to the bank, and working situations.
Anyways, have a great one everyone. I just figured it’s been a while since I updated this site (well, since I posted, I’ve been doing gallery and dvd updates for a while now ;)), thought those that gave a shit might be reading this

After pricing moving companies (ranging anywhere from 1850-3600) and rental trucks, I discovered that lo and behold my best option is to take a truck. Well, at least the most affordable option is.
Figure that I’d have to pay another $350 for airfare (where do these guys come up with these assinine rates?), plus get the cats homes (airlines want around $200 per cat as "luggage", then I have to spend another $50-150 certifying them at vets, plus another 2 kennels going anywhere from $25-50 each). Add in the misc airport stuff, and it’s just not worth my time.
So, the trip home is going to be a vacation of sorts. According to mapquest it’ll take 24 hours (allowing 1 hour for screwups, gas, food, etc), but I’m going to stretch that into a 3-4 day trip. We’ll catch hotels along the way, gas up and go, but I’m sooooo looking forward to this trip home now, so much more than I was on the way out here, mainly because Mel will be driving.
The trip out to Iowa was supposed to be just one stop on a national "tour" if you will, of cities, but I just ended up staying here, right where I am, in the same town for 5 years. Amazing that the trip BACk will be more of a "tour" than the trip out here, but I am soooooooooooooo looking forward to it.
Hopefully I’ll get some good shots and pictures on the way back, we’ll see what I can come up with. Until then, well, keep your eyes on this page (if you’re really interested) for updates and whatnot.
