Today started out allright, much like any other day, waking up to the annoying sound of my cell phone going off telling me something, somewhere is DOWN! Blech, I hate down, I just HATE it!

Today was supposed to start out my Christmas holiday/vacation, something I’m desperately in need of. What happened instead? Well, let me just say that I thought my return trip from Seattle was bad, this just takes the damn cake.

So, flight time was at 1235. Tony runs me to the airport , we get there a bit later than I like to (1045), but still in PLENTY of time to catch the flight. Or do we?

First thing I do (natural to me now), is find the desk and try to check my stuff in. But WAIT, there’s nobody THERE!! Huh, where’s the staff?

Pretty soon, the line behind me begins to fill up, and I mean fill up. There’s like 30 people in line, and we all want service. Still, where’s the staff?

FINALLY, about 1130, someone decides to grace us with their presence. I check in for my flight, still well ahead of schedule, with an hour to go. Yes, an hour. I allow for these kinds of misgivings at airports to a degree.

So, I sit down, patiently wait the hour to check into security (apparently, someone’s decided that we can’t even get into the terminal until just before we depart). Around 1230, it’s clear the plane isn’t outside, so I get back in line, wait another 15 minutes and finally get someone to look at the issue. Her response:

I’m sorry, but the plane hasn’t left Minneapolis yet, we don’t have flight attendants.. Umm, WTF? This is about THE stupidest shit I’ve ever heard of. You don’t have the staff for flights that were booked OVER a month ago? Okay, great, so when’s the next flight?
Well, they’re not certain, when the plane will arrive, they just have no clue.

Now, if I was taking a nonstop, I wouldn’t care, I’d just be like whatever and get it done. HOWEVER, I’m supposed to catch a flight in Minneapolis going BACK to Seattle at 235. Will I make that flight? Everyone agrees no, I won’t. SO, when’s the next flight?

The next flight is at 435. I ask if the plane will get us there in time for that, and the attendant says probably not. If it DID, I’d have to be routed through Dallas just to go to Seattle, and there’s a good chance that I’d miss that connection as well. Goody goody gumdrops! The next flight afte that? Sometime later, much later.

So, why all the hubub, I’m just going to Seattle, right?
Actually, no I’m not. I had a bus to catch in Seattle at 11p, going to Spokane, back to visit my grandmother over there. Since there was NO way in hell I was going to make that trip, I just bagged it all.

Now, what fucking incompetent overbooked, or underscheduled people? This is just absolutely ridiculous! To think that I’d end up sitting in Dallas on Christmas, or Detroit, rather than where I PAID to go (Seattle) is just fucking absurd. Recently, I was in a rather bit of a bind, when the worst cable company that I’ve met in 28+ years, Mediacomm decided their own pleasures were more important than the rest of their fucking customers.

The date:
New Years Weekend: 2002
The Problem:
Nearly 25 blocks of users were out of service, when it came to Mediacomm @home, beginning with Friday afternoon, ending with fucking Wednesday evening.

Throughout all of this time, I’d spent countless hours on hold with these fucks (it takes an average of 3 hours on hold just to get through to their technical support staff), twice I was hung up on, because the person I was talking to thought that I should be nice and polite, because after all, I wasn’t out anything major, right?? I don’t fucking think so.

Through this, the problem was supposedly "fixed" 5 times, yet each time, within an hour, or two, guess what. The problem came right back.. Shows what this bunch of jackasses know about networking I guess.. Pretty much fucking NOTHING.

So, what do they do to apologize to their customers?? Nothing, nothing at all. There was no written apology, no calls saying "Hey, we’re sorry, we know we fucked up, blah blah".. They simply expect people to accept a minor reimbursement for the time that was lost offline (that’s not counting the actual inconvenience of all of that). My fucking god, how ridiculous is this company?

I’ve just got one thing to say, then I’ll let it be at this..
If you jackasses handle the transfer from the @home service just as crappily, you’ll be losing one fucking HELL of a lot more customers than you did this last time around.. Get a clue, hire someone that actually knows what they’re doing.

Microsoft has added a very nice little clause in the later versions of 2k pro and XP. This states that they can enter your PC as long as it has their crap on it at ANY time for ANY reason. This gives them the permission to enter and investigate your BANK computer, your community computer, ANYWHERE that information is stored, or ANYTHING running XP or 2k SP3. Some of these people, I’d helped out more than others, one in particular. His way of thanking me? Rearranging my shit in the living room so that it fit HIS needs (not mine), blasting me out of the living room 24/7 with HIS music or sounds (I couldn’t even fucking think!), mooching off of me for 2, 3 months until I finally said no more, being entirely disrespectful to EVERYONE in the house, the list goes on and on.

An example:
One afternoon, a call came in. The call wasn’t for him, it was on a line that both he and one of the other roomates shared. His response: Yell down the vent (when he knows the other roomate has his headphones on), and continue talking to the person. Now, granted, he knew the person, but he had no right (none) usurping that person’s phone call, and not even bothering to give the person the call was FOR a chance to get on the phone. Had it not been for me, the person would have never known he had a call and would have been not happy Common sense would dictate that if someone called and said ‘let me speak to so and so please’, that person is allowed to speak to so and so without someone else butting in on the conversation. Gee, you think?

Another example, different roomate, but it’s still the same shit, common fucking sense:
Dishes get washed when you’re done with them (not days later when you ‘feel like it’). Try telling that to Eric though, who refuses to wash his dishes for DAYS after he’s done cooking. They just sit there in the sink and grow mold and shit on them. I mean, let’s get REAL here!!!! They’re NOT your dishes first of all, and secondly I’d personally rather NOT have bugs crawling around my kitchen! Disgusting!!!

Ahh, yes, and then we have the most brilliant one of all, the one who takes everything into his room, eats it, then buries the fucking dishes. I swear, every damn time I went down there I came up with another ‘dish’ that was randomly down there. And he wonders why I got so upset when my dishes come up missing!!!

Were there good times? Ye’r damn right, there always are. Countless good times, yet when it comes down to it, the good times did not outweigh the bad, hell, the good times didn’t even equal the bad. No, the good times were so much fewer than the bad that it’s not funny. A general lack of respect was given to myself, who pays 100% of the bills ultimately, no matter who pays me or doesn’t pay me. When these people were told to get their shit together, I got jumped like a mother fucker, because THEY didn’t want to do it. I mean, I’ve had to put up with my share of shit in my day, but god fucking damn!

Going into everything, everyone was great, we were all conversing quite well, we were friends. Yeah, we had disagreements, like everyone will, but then people just started having to butt their noses in where it didn’t belong. People had to *censored* and pisss and moan when I gave deadlines, or they refused to do what was needed. Essentially, TOM got left paying the bills, they just sat along for a free mother fucking ride. When asked to pay more (one fucking time), one’s response was NO, I’m not going to, because everyone ELSE is more important to you, and I don’t HAVE to pay you anything.

So, how does all of this leave me feeling? Hurt, used, quite withdrawn, and definitely upset. Monies never were paid that should have been, people just skipped fucking town without picking up their shit, leaving their room so nasty it’s not crazy, leaving a bill WELL over $300, yet they just refuse to pay. I hate being responsible, really I do, yet, nobody else can be as responsible as myself. When it comes down to it, that’s the out and out truth.Bills are paid on time, and rent is paid on time. Everything marches to a drummer that’s quite well taken care off. That way I don’t have to worry about someone else shutting off my damn internet, or cable, or business, or phone. Funny how those t hings are needed in life I guess.

Respect? How about giving some to your local landlord, roomate, head roomate, whatever, ehh?

Lesson learned? Trust nobody. If rent aint paid on time, they’re out the door, plain and simple. I aint a fucking bank for people to be walking in and out of, not me, not now, no fucking way!
